JEFF CATES - President, Chief Auctioneer
As the third generation owner, Jeff has been involved in the auction industry his entire life and has had the unusual opportunity to learn from the best. He is a former Missouri State Champion Auctioneer and has been a finalist in the International competition. Jeff served as an instructor at the Missouri Auction School and has earned coveted designations as "Certified Auctioneer", "Accredited Auctioneer of Real Estate", and "Certified Estate Specialist". He is also a licensed Real Estate Broker in Missouri and Kansas.
GREG DUNCAN - Vice President
Greg adds 20 years of management and sales expertise to the Cates team. With a colorful background including university teaching, operations & executive management, corporate training, sales development, small business ownership and city government, Greg is very comfortable leading and growing the staff at Cates. Greg is a licensed auctioneer and real estate agent.
SHANE MAXWELL - Auction Coordinator, Auctioneer, Realtor
With auctions as merely a "hobby" initially, Shane built a successful career in sales and small business management. He completed licensing as an auctioneer and worked in the auction industry for many years as a bid assistant and bid caller. Eventually his love of the auction industry became his full-time endeavor and as Auction Coordinator for Cates he manages the many details preparing for and executing each auction event. In 2009 Shane was a top 5 finalist in the International Ringman's Championship. Shane also coordinates the contract members of the Cates staff.
CATRINA DUNCAN - Marketing Coordinator
After years of professional experience as a graphic designer for advertising agencies in Florida and Missouri, Catrina now enjoys working "in-house" for Cates. She is responsible for the company web site and brand advertising, as well as media placing and managing each multifaceted month-long campaign that preludes each auction. Her expertise in print layout and graphic design ensures that Cates flyers, brochures, ads and postcards have that polished edge that makes them stand out in the crowded real estate market. Her Cates advertising pieces have won numerous industry awards.
KIM MANGUM - Administrative & Marketing Assistant
Kim is responsible for the smooth administration of the many details behind the scenes of a successful auction event. This includes front line customer service, document and file management, coordination of open houses, showings, and closings, and communication with clients throughout the sale process. Prior to joining Cates, she has worked as an office manager and administrative assistant as well as doing job costing for the largest heating & cooling company in the Metro area. Her attention to detail helps keep the administrative aspect of our auctions on track and running smoothly.
ANDY JARRETT - Auction Customer Service Coordinator
A smooth running auction requires good technology and great staff. Andy oversees the auction day customer service operations including the mobile office, registrars, clerks, cashiers and the software and equipment behind it all. Andy has worked on both sides of the auction industry as an operations supervisor for an auction company and also as a professional buyer. He also brings valuable corporate management experience as well as the unique perspective of a small business owner.

Ray’s sales and marketing career in the financial sector spans thirty years including ten years with a Fortune 100 company. A top producer in financial services including commercial mortgage and capital lending, risk management, complex estate and succession planning, Ray has an established history of achieving his clients’ needs.
Recognizing the growing need for downsizing and transitioning assistance in the senior market, Ray shifted his focus to real estate and became a licensed Realtor in Missouri & Kansas. To offer a truly unique solution (and turn a lifelong interest into a career) he decided to specialize in auction marketing. He graduated from the Missouri Auction School in 2009.
Ray enjoys consulting with property owners who are interested in efficient and expedited sales of their real estate and personal property. His professional background ideally suits him for helping all types of sellers from seniors in transition to corporations liquidating assets. His clients appreciate his caring and comprehensive approach to assisting them throughout the process.

Chad’s interest in real estate was established at a very young age, having grown up in a family of real estate professionals. Working in his father’s real estate business gave him early exposure to the rewards… and the challenges of managing properties, consulting with sellers and assisting buyers.
That experience, combined with a genuine interest in engaging people, naturally led Chad into a successful 20+ year career as a sales professional. Highlights include positions as a Regional Account Executive with a national firm as well as various sales management roles involving teams of 50 employees spread over multiple locations.
Eventually Chad decided to put his sales expertise to work in combination with his background in real estate and he took on the responsibilities of Business Development Manager for a highly successful Realtor team with a prominent Kansas City area brokerage. It was in this capacity that he encountered the unique benefits afforded to sellers and buyers at a real estate auction.
Chad saw the opportunity to build a niche real estate business by helping sellers use auction marketing to get good value for their properties in a highly efficient and satisfying way. His partnership with Cates Auction & Realty allows him to extend his specialization by offering a full complement of professional auction services to sellers.
A sales professional specializing in Residential and Commercial properties, Rick is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with property owners and financial institutions that seek timely and transparent exchanges of their real estate. His efforts center on providing liquidity, revenue generation and maximum return on assets. Rick’s diverse sales and management career spans over 20 years, having owned and operated two successful companies. His entrepreneurial spirit and outside-the-box thinking offer a fresh perspective to the Cates team and to his clients.
